Netgear just launched the PTVU1000, an universal box " Push2TV ". The main idea is simple: the box is connected with a television set (or a screen) using HDMI wire and the computer broadcasts video or audio contents to the home cinema setup.
Deal of the day :
Almost Wi-Fi
Netgear indicates that the connection works " in Wi-Fi ", but it is not really exact : a transmitter which connects in USB with the computer remains necessary. Contrary to the WiDi of Intel which really works in Wi-Fi (only with a card(map) Intel), the solution of Netgear is less easy to use.
concerning the image quality, the company announces that a computer using a Core 2 Dual (1,8 GHz) can display 720p and a model clocked at 2,4 GH using 2 Go of RAM is necessary to reach the Holy Grail aka 1080p. Even if is not clearly indicated, we can suppose that machines with Atom (for example) are probably not powerfull enought.
Windows (XP, Vista, 7) remains necessary, the box does not transmit the HDMI input signal itself. Concerning the box, we also can find a digital audio output (S/PDIF) and an analogic one.
